It\u2019s not a thing that happens, no matter what you\u2019ve heard. Which is what scams like this rely on: word of mouth. <i>Hey, did you hear you can get free Bitcoin and Ether from Elon Musk? I saw it on his Twitter page. <\/i>The victim then acquires the minimum amount required by the scammer and sends it away, never to receive the payout.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s scammers went a step beyond the standard fake Twitter profile and link to an Ether address. They created a whole website, spacex.delivery (no longer available \u2013 likely the ICANN\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icann.org\/resources\/pages\/help\/dndr\/udrp-en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trademark rules<\/a> were enforced. There are no outgoing transactions.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a strong liklihood there was no actual incoming Eth, as we discussed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccn.com\/no-those-elon-musk-crypto-scams-probably-havent-made-fraudsters-175000\/\">here<\/a>. Although, there are three transactions that meet the \u201cminimum requirements.\u201d This <a href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/tx\/0x70894fa157e3b151aed09259621cb25a61d502d86892c97e634328e06e4703ea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one<\/a>, this <a href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/tx\/0xf7ccd696a7389aa996395e18694269e9deb01f105ae2641ef2506d2878be520b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one<\/a>, and this <a href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/tx\/0xfa5d4c66340dd3b6266d5f3c38db7e68631ba9f07c9838f8ae7318a7588f2918\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the scam was pretty standard: a short blog post on Medium complete with fake comments. One person claims to have received 30 Eth, and another 20. But there were no deposits of that size, so judging by the \u201cverification\u201d method required in the scam\u2019s mechanics, it\u2019s just funny. In crypto we have proof of most everything. Elon Musk may be charitable, but that doesn\u2019t mean he has time to go around giving non-tax-deductible donations. Neither do you. So avoid anything that says \u201cElon Musk\u201d and \u201cfree [insert cryptocurrency].\u201d If ever he <i>does<\/i> give blockchain money away for free, you\u2019ll definitely hear about it from a reputable source like CCN. In the meantime, please be smart with your crypto.
