O<\/span>ne of the best aspects of Oslo is its geographic position \u2013 situated on the coast yet sheltered from the extremes of the seas.<\/p>\n

The Oslofjord, and inlet of the Skagerrak strait, surrounds the capital. It is scattered with an archipelago or \u201cskj\u00e6rg\u00e5rd\u201d consisting of thousands of small low-lying, lightly forested islands, islets, rocks and reefs along the coastline.<\/p>\n

The area becomes the capital\u2019s playground in the summer and is beautifully peaceful in autumn. Everyone has the unrestricted right of free access to it, too, regardless of who owns the land.<\/p>\n

Chef Ann Sung-An Lee has lived in London, New York and Tokyo, but is proud to call Oslo her hometown. Her restaurant, Gressholmen Kro<\/a>, is a small eatery on the island of Gressholmen, 10 minutes from the city by boat.<\/p>\n

Gressholmen is one of three connected islands along with Ramberg\u00f8ya and Heggholmen. Ramberg\u00f8ya and the northern parts of Gressholmen are nature reserves, and the bay between the two islands is an important nesting area for sea birds.<\/p>\n

Heggholmen has one of the oldest lighthouses in the Oslofjord, while Gressholmen was actually the site of the city\u2019s first airport, opened in 1927.<\/p>\n

Gressholmen Kro\u2019s roots are almost as old. Today Ann aims to give her guests good, honest food influenced by her multicultural background. She grew up in Japan but is the daughter of Taiwanese parents, who were travelling Baptist ministers.<\/p>\n

Most of all, she enjoys the peaceful surrounds of the fjord during the day and the bars and music venues of Oslo city on nights off.<\/p>\n
