The slaying marks the 19th murder of a journalist in Mexico this year and the second of its kind since a new president took office.<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2018\/12\/Murdered-Mexican-Journalist.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9809693\" src=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2018\/12\/Murdered-Mexican-Journalist.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This week, 35-year-old Diego Garcia Corona was driving in Ecatepec, Mexico State, when a group of unknown gunmen ambushed and shot him several times inside his car. As Mexica authorities responded to he the scene, they found Garcia slumped over the driver\u2019s side of the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, Mexico State investigators found a work ID that revealed that Garcia was an employee at a weekly publication called <em>Semanario Morelos<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2018\/12\/Murdered-Mexican-State-Journo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9809699\" src=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2018\/12\/Murdered-Mexican-State-Journo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The murder was condemned on social media by Jesus Ramirez Cuevas, the new head of communications for Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. No descansaremos hasta lograr un M\u00e9xico donde exista justicia, libertad de expresi\u00f3n y seguridad.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jes\u00fas Ram\u00edrez Cuevas (@JesusRCuevas) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JesusRCuevas\/status\/1069657202338684931?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 3, 2018<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As Breitbart News reported over the weekend, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/border\/2018\/12\/03\/journalist-killed-in-western-mexico-18th-in-2018\/\">authorities in the western state of Nayarit found the body of Jesus Alejandro Marquez Jimenez<\/a> who went missing just one day before. The journalist was the director of <em>Orion Informativo<\/em> and also worked with several other outlets.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Other Journalists Murdered in 2018:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>October 24 \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/border\/2018\/10\/25\/mexican-journalist-murdered-in-acapulco-17th-in-2018\/\">Gabriel Soriano Kuri<\/a>, a radio journalist in Acapulco, Guerrero who was murdered by a team of gunmen as he returned from covering a public event hosted by the governor of that state.<\/li>\n<li>October 3 \u2013\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/border\/2018\/10\/03\/16th-journalist-killed-in-mexico-in-2018\/\">Sergio Martinez Gonzalez<\/a>, an online print journalist in Chiapas who exposed public corruption in the State of Chiapas. Martinez claimed he received threats prior to his murder.<\/li>\n<li>September 28 \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/border\/2018\/09\/28\/another-journalist-murdered-in-mexico-15th-in-2018\/\">Arturo Porcallo Eguiluz<\/a>, a radio journalist an DJ in Guerrero for Radio y Television de Guerrero (RTG). A motive for his murder has not been released.<\/li>\n<li>September 21\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/border\/2018\/09\/22\/gunmen-previously-threatened-mexican-political-journalist-14th-in-2018\/\">Mario Leonel Gomez Sanchez<\/a>, a political journalist for El Heraldo de Chiapas. He had been the target of threats in 2016 after reporting on embezzlement by public officials in the state.<\/li>\n<li>August 29 \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/08\/30\/cartel-gunmen-kill-mexican-journalist-in-cancun-13th-in-2018\/\">Javier Rodriguez Valladares<\/a>\u00a0was a cameraman and TV journalist for Canal 10 in Cancun, Quintana Roo. He was shot along one of the main avenues in the tourist hotspot.<\/li>\n<li>August 8 \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/08\/08\/mexican-photojournalist-killed-12th-in-2018\/\">Rodolfo Garcia Gonzalez\u00a0<\/a>was a freelance photographer who often worked with Semanario7. He was shot and killed in Guanajuato.<\/li>\n<li>July 24 \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/07\/24\/gunmen-in-playa-del-carmen-murder-11th-mexican-journalist-in-2018\/\">Ruben Pat Cauich\u00a0<\/a>was a veteran journalist who founded the online outlet La Playa News in Quintana Roo, not far from Cancun. He had been previously threatened and was ultimately killed at a bar in the tourist hotspot of Playa Del Carmen.<\/li>\n<li>July 3 \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/07\/03\/tenth-mexican-journalist-killed-in-2018\/\">Jos\u00e9 Guadalupe Chan Dzib<\/a>\u00a0was a crime reporter for La Playa News, Aqui y Ahora, and other local outlets near Cancun, Quintana Roo. He was gunned down outside of a local bar in Playa Del Carmen.<\/li>\n<li>May 29 \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/05\/29\/journalist-beaten-to-death-in-mexican-border-state-3rd-in-may\/\">Hector Gonzales Antonio was<\/a>\u00a0a national correspondent for\u00a0<em>Excelsior<\/em>\u00a0and worked in various local outlets. He was kidnapped, tortured, and dumped in a vacant lot.<\/li>\n<li>May 24 \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/05\/24\/mexican-border-state-journalist-beaten-to-death-in-her-home\/\">Alicia Diaz Gonzalez<\/a>, a financial writer for one of Mexico\u2019s largest publications, was found beaten to death in her home in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.<\/li>\n<li>May 14 \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/05\/15\/fourth-mexican-journalist-murdered-2018\/\">Juan Carlos Huerta Mart\u00ednez<\/a>, a reporter and broadcast host, was killed by a\u00a0team of gunmen outside his home in Tabasco.<\/li>\n<li>March 21 \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/03\/24\/mexican-journalist-killed-after-threats-from-local-mayor\/\">Leobardo V\u00e1zquez Atzin<\/a>\u00a0ran the online news site\u00a0<em>Enlace Informativo Regional<\/em>\u00a0in Veracruz who reported on a local mayor tied to an illicit property grab and was killed by a team of gunmen.<\/li>\n<li>February 14 \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/02\/14\/journalist-found-dead-tijuana-marks-third-mexican-case-2018\/\">Pedro Dami\u00e1n G\u00f3mez Bonifaz<\/a>, director-owner of the\u00a0<em>Panorama Pol\u00edtico<\/em>, was found dead\u00a0with obvious signs of trauma caused by a sharp-edged weapon\u00a0at his home in Tijuana, Baja California.<\/li>\n<li>February 5 \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/02\/09\/hitmen-execute-youtube-political-satire-personality-acapulco\/\">Leslie Ann Pamela Montenegro del Real<\/a>, a\u00a0popular YouTube satirist and blogger who used the pseudonym \u201cLa Nana Pelucas,\u201d was gunned down while eating dinner at a restaurant in Acapulco.<\/li>\n<li>January 21 \u2014\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"http:\/\/www.zocalo.com.mx\/seccion\/opinion-articulo\/7-periodistas-asesinados-en-lo-que-va-del-ano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">Agust\u00edn Silva V\u00e1squez<\/a>, a freelance police reporter from\u00a0<em>El Sol del Istmo<\/em>, disappeared in Mat\u00edas Romero, Oaxaca, according to his family members who reported his kidnapping.\u00a0Silva V\u00e1squez is presumed dead.<\/li>\n<li>January 13 \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/03\/30\/three-reporters-mexican-border-politicians-nephew-arrested-columnists-murder\/\">Carlos Dominguez Rodriguez<\/a>\u00a0was ambushed and killed by a team of assassins\u00a0in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, who stabbed him to death in front of his family. Authorities arrested a relative of the former mayor of Nuevo Laredo and several other individuals allegedly linked to the case.<\/li>\n<li>January 6 \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/texas\/2018\/01\/08\/mexico-witnesses-first-murdered-journalist-2018\/\">Jos\u00e9 Gerardo Mart\u00ednez Arriaga<\/a>, an editor with\u00a0<em>El Universal<\/em>, was purchasing toys for his family in Mexico City when\u00a0he was robbed and killed at gunpoint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Ildefonso Ortiz is an award-winning journalist with Breitbart Texas.
